Membership

ukva-membershipThe United Kingdom Vineyard Association (UKVA) is the national organisation for grape growers and winemakers.  The UKVA provides advice, support and services for its members and their businesses, it represents its members’ views and campaigns on their behalf to ensure fair legislation for the industry and its continued success.

There are many benefits to joining the UKVA:

  • Is the first point of reference for information about grape growing and winemaking in the UK.
  • It provides support and training for growers and wine producers, from planting, vine care and winemaking to business and marketing.
  • It brings the industry together through competitions and events and forums for sharing information and accessing expertise.
  • It works with the UK government, its agencies, and the EU, to represent members’ interests and lobbies on their behalf to ensure fair legislation and regulation.
  • Is the guardian of the quality standards and the protected names of English wine and Welsh wine, through the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indicator (PGI) and Varietal Wine Schemes.
  • Is responsible for the availability and safe approval of plant protection products used on grapes for wine production in the UK. The UKVA publishes a list of approved products along with regularly-updated guidance on safe and legal plant protection.
  • It promotes research and development into viticulture and winemaking in the UK.
  • It aims to protect the long-term reputation and success of the English wine industry.
  • It initiates coordinated generic marketing activities for English and Welsh wine and secures marketing advice, guidance and opportunities for its members.

Members receive the following:

  • Access to the email forum - a closed forum for UKVA members to discuss issues relating to vine growing and winemaking.
  • The "Grape Press" - the UKVA publication also sent out twice a year. National wine industry news, technical reports, and updates to legislation. It includes a Commercial Directory listing of winemakers, consultants and other service providers.
  • The "Green Book" - Annual publication from the UKVA giving details of pesticides approved for use in vineyards, ensuring that members spray effectively and legally.
Preferential rates to enter the English & Welsh Wine of the Year Competition - for commercial growers, this is the UK wine industry "Oscars".  Awards are presented at a prestigious lunch each year.
  • Preferential rates to attend UKVA Symposia and technical conferences.
  • Regular Bulletins from the UKVA detailing important legislation changes and items of interest to members.
